For Future Trainees,
You will learn so much during the course of the year. I found the more I learned, the more questions I had because I was opened to a new realm of words, experience, and true teaching.  It is truly a great experience and will change the way you look at reading. I have seen how the Orton-Gillingham approach positively changes students’ attitudes and self-confidence because each lesson is prescriptive to their needs and the approach works directly with their unique way of learning. Enjoy your time tutoring students and learning this method, you won’t regret it!

Kindergarten Teacher

I am truly honored to learn and tutor amidst such caring people…. Together we are reshaping the paths for many struggling readers. Thank you for making this possible.

As a parent, words cannot describe how grateful I am for the Center, their understanding of my child, and help in navigating the system. As a tutor, I appreciate the support and knowledge that I gained from your team.

This is by far the BEST class I have ever taken in my life. I have learned so much from this experience. I am currently in the process of getting my teaching license and cannot wait until I get to apply what I have learned here into my future classroom. Some of you may be teachers and others of you may be professionals or parents, but you will be able to make a difference in someone else’s life. To be able to see the growth of the students you will be tutoring is an amazing thing to see. I hope you all enjoy your time here at the reading center, I know I did.

New Elementary Teacher

The Center has provided a wonderful opportunity to pursue another path in life, as well as, share my passion for reading with some very unique and deserving children. The Center has been blessed with knowledgeable directors, trainers, and support staff and has offered a very detailed program with a variety of materials to assist in our lesson planning. It is a pleasure to be part of such a caring and supportive organization.

Second Career

I am a first grade teacher and so very glad that I went through the Orton-Gillingham program last year because it made me a much more effective educator, and through it, many children have had that “light bulb” experience.  As you will soon learn, this approach gives students the opportunity to have keys to reading.  The coolest thing about this approach is that all students can benefit from it, not just the struggling reader. I learned many hidden gems of reading and spelling tips throughout the program, and continually asked myself why I never learned any of this in college. You are helping these students gain a gift that will remain with them forever.

First Grade Teacher

This is one of the most beneficial classes that I have taken in my career. I have been able to utilize what I have learned with my Kindergarten class from letter recognition and spelling to fluency and comprehension!

Kindergarten Teacher

This experience has been by far the most educational of all my learning experiences put together. I have learned so much during the past year that it is mind-boggling. I believe the reason for this is the structure of the program. It allows the trainees to learn as much as they can and then practice those skills in an authentic learning environment, honing their understanding and their implementation of that knowledge.  The synergy of the program is inspiring!

High School Teacher

“It’s a life changing experience,” said the woman who answered the phone the day I called to get more information about becoming a tutor. A week later, a colleague of mine whose son graduated from the program added to that sentiment and said, “the Orton-Gillingham reading and spelling program is truly amazing!”  Watching my students improve and gain confidence in reading is heart-warming. I feel very proud!
